As a world-renowned outdoor recreation mecca, Hood River is the ideal place to pursue all levels of kiteboarding instruction. As the only sea-level passageway through the Cascade mountain range, the Columbia River Gorge forms a natural tunnel that accelerates wind speeds, providing an amazing variety of wind and water conditions. West winds are primarily driven by the pressure differential created when warm desert inland air draws the cool, Pacific marine air through the Gorge. When the west winds take a break, east winds blow through the western Gorge, and offer kiteboarders yet another round of kiteable days.

Kiteboarding Conditions in the Gorge
Although the Gorge is windy year-round, the best months for kiteboarding are May through October. If you are planning a vacation, June through September bring the most consistent wind. Regardless of daily changes, however, if the wind is blowing, we'll be able to find a launch area with conditions that match your skill level. Also, we love to talk shop, so if you have questions about where to kite in the Gorge, or are simply looking for beta on the best launch for your riding level, free to contact us with questions or concerns.
